Diamond Place Development
At the Forum AGM in November 2020 we heard from Oxford City Council and their development team at Carter Jonas, about the preliminary plans for redevelopment at Diamond Place and Ewert Place in Summertown. You can see the 2020 Carter Jonas presentation here. In 2015, a planning document for Diamond Place was agreed by Oxford City Council - Diamond Place Supplementary Planning Document - which you can see here.
Development at Diamond Place is of interest to all those who live and work in the Summertown and St Margaret’s area, and beyond. In order to ensure that information about the project is widely shared in our community, and that consultation is as inclusive as possible, the Forum has set up a working group to monitor progress and invite public comment.
On March 23rd 2021 we held a Community Meeting over Zoom, to learn about the proposal to site a new health centre in the Diamond Place Development. Read the press release here.
We held a further Community Meeting on May 18th 2021, attended by 87 participants, to consider the future Community Centre provision within the Development. Click here to see the presentation made by NOA.
The Neighbourhood Forum met in July 2021 with the City Council and Oxford University (co-owners of the Diamond Place site) to establish their plans for redevelopment and to ensure there is full public consultation over any development proposals. We await an update from Carter Jonas (expected March 2022). The Forum wants the provisions in the Neighbourhood Plan (2019) and in the Supplementary Planning Document for Diamond Place (2015) - for affordable housing, a health centre, the leisure centre, a new community centre, and public space - adhered to in any redevelopment. The Forum is also undertaking its own analysis of the potential of the site to meet the needs of the community and City.
There was a Diamond Place Community Plan launch event on 26th June 2021. Take a tour of the site with Geoffrey Randell.
At our 2021 AGM in November, the Diamond Place Working Group presented the first iteration of their proposed Community Plan for the development, and we heard from Anna Strongman (CEO of Oxford University Development) and representatives from the City Council. You can see the Working Group’s slide presentation here.
Please look out for further news and events related to Diamond Place as the plans by Oxford City Council and Oxford University start to crystallise. We will continue to seek your views and support to ensure the development makes a positive impact on our neighbourhood.
Membership and Terms of Reference of the Working Group will shortly be made available here.
